Science affects each and every one of us, every day of our lives. Scientific skills will help our students in their future lives: to make the correct choice when comparing data; enable then to confidently work with potentially hazardous materials; know the importance of assessing and controlling risk; as well as understanding the content of the science curriculum.

Year 7 - Living systems, Chemical reactions, levers and moments.

Year 8 - Photosynthesis and respiration, Acids and alkalis and Energy

Year 9 - Units of biology, chemistry and physics. The content includes the study of cells, atomic structure and waves.

Key Stage 4 science offers 2 routes, depending on whether combined science or trilogy science is chosen by the student:

Combined Science Trilogy Science

Year 10 - includes the study of homeostasis, organic chemistry and electricity.

Year 11 - includes the study of bioenergetics, rates of chemical reactions and electromagnetism.

Year 10 - includes the study of homeostasis, organic chemistry and electricity

Year 11 - includes the study of bioenergetics, rates of chemical reactions, electromagnetism and the solar system.

* NB. Though the content titles are the same as combined science, these units have extra content.

Throughout the course there are 21 required practical activities divided between biology, chemistry and physics that students will participate in.

Throughout the course there are 28 required practical activities divided between biology, chemistry and physics that students will participate in.

GCSE science follows the AQA specification.

Throughout the course the science team offer intervention sessions. Through the academy’s membership of the West Suffolk Ogden Trust group offer trips to the Big Bang East and opportunities to participate in competitions .
