Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Castle Manor Academy

At Castle Manor Academy, we are proud to offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), a prestigious and rewarding individual challenge designed to inspire young people through constructive, challenging, and enjoyable activities. Our program encourages students to develop valuable life skills, contribute to the community, and embrace adventure.

DofE consists of four sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and the Expedition. Participants in our Bronze Award commit to a set number of months to volunteer, improve their physical fitness, develop a new skill, and take part in a two-day expedition as part of a team. The expedition includes essential training led by DofE-certified staff in areas like map reading, emergency response, road safety, camp craft, first aid, and cooking on a camping stove.

DofE at Castle Manor Academy

Every year, we enrol up to 28 Year 9 and 10 students in our Bronze DofE programme. Castle Manor Academy is in its eleventh year of delivering this exciting and enriching award.

Our students are equipped with the skills and confidence to excel, thanks to our rigorous training process and the positive experiences they gain from their DofE journey. Many of our Bronze participants go on to achieve their Gold Award during their further education, a testament to their preparedness and enthusiasm.

We also partner with local organisations, such as cadets, to assist students in completing their award within the community. We believe the DofE is a highly individualised experience, and we offer flexible support to help students complete the award in a way that works best for them.

Inclusivity and Support

At Castle Manor Academy, we firmly believe there should be no barriers to participation and we do everything we can to ensure inclusivity within our DOFE group. From providing financial support for free school meal students, lending full kit, keeping costs low and providing extra assistance when needed, we work hard to make the DofE an opportunity for everyone. Our programme is a vital part of our outdoor learning, and we are proud to say that every student can take part.

DofE Team and Staff

The DofE programme at Castle Manor Academy is led by Mrs. Baldwin, our dedicated DofE Manager. She is the first point of contact for any questions regarding the award or opportunities to connect with community groups for volunteering. Mrs. Baldwin can be reached via email at bbaldwin@castlemanor.org.uk.

Our DofE programme is strongly supported by staff across the academy. Mrs Samuels. Mrs Ransome, Mr. Fielding, Miss Spurling, Miss Byrne, Miss Bruce, Mr. Teare, Mrs. Brown, Miss Golding, Mrs. Simms, Miss Bayne, and Miss Bushell, regularly contribute their time and expertise, whether by assisting on expeditions or leading clubs that help

students fulfil their skill and physical activity requirements. Their dedication ensures that our students have the guidance they need to succeed.

At Castle Manor Academy, we value the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award not just for the accolades it offers, but for the experiences, friendships, and personal growth it fosters. Join us and take the first step toward achieving something amazing!
