Subject Overview

GCSE Photography is a broad ranging course that explores a variety of processes and disciplines – it is based around the opportunity for independent thinking and personal expression. Students need only to bring their imagination and enthusiasm to the course. 

Course Information

During this GCSE Photography, you will find both new and traditional methods of painting with light. Photography is all about capturing both the visible and invisible light around us. We have an excellent darkroom, iMac suite, together with 3 studios and location-based work. The use of effects filters, infrared-based light capture with digital SLRs, panoramic capture techniques and projected light will be explored throughout the two years of this course.  

When students have completed their photoshoots, using the various digital compact and Single Lens reflex cameras, they use a highly specified PC to edit their own work. All the computers run the industry-standard Adobe Creative Suite software together with the option to use online publication applications. 

Assessment

The GCSE Photography at Castle Manor Academy is delivered by the AQA awarding body. The course is assessed 60% on coursework element and 40% on the exam, the exam is a practical project based on set questions with plenty of time given to explore personal responses. 

Progression

GCSE Photography provides an ideal springboard for students who intend to study Photography at post-16, provides skills that are key to those who intend to pursue careers in media, journalism, medical science, especially radiology and many other paths.
